Wojanis Hydraulic Supply Co., Inc. has recently introduced the Plow Balance System.

This patented hydraulic valve system is designed to reduce the wear of the cutting edge on snow plows by controlling the amount of weight that the plow bears upon the road surface.

The weight of these plows, often in excess of 4,000 lbs., can quickly wear out the cutting edges.
The “friction” of the heavy plow takes its toll, as it scrapes down the road, damaging road surfaces, asphalt patches, lane markers and softer shoulders.
In addition to wear and tear of the plow and roads, the engine too is strained, required to produce enormous amounts of horsepower to push the heavy plow. Naturally as the horsepower requirement increases so does the fuel consumption.

To reduce the effects of these problem areas, the operator turns on the Plow Balance System with the Master Switch located in the cab, and the plow will then follow the contour of the road surface at a reduced weight.
This allows the operator to plow more miles of road without stopping to change edges during a storm. If the full weight of the plow is required, ie; to remove hard pack or ice, he simply turns the system off and the operator is back to using normal plow controls.

The benefits of the Plow Balance System are not limited to increased cutting edge life. Operators could also see: increased fuel mileage, more horsepower available for other requirements, less engine overheating, reduction of the “scraping noise” and vibration in the cab, reduced road damage, reduced impact to truck and operator when encountering raised concrete edges or manhole covers, improved steering, and possibly the elimination of costly shoes or wheels on the plow.
All of which provide operators and government agencies increased productivity, safety and dollar savings, expected of them on a daily basis.

Plow Balance Systems can be easily installed onto trucks with central hydraulic systems using Load Sense Piston Pumps, Open Center Gear Pumps, Load Sense Gear Pumps or Dry Valve Pumps, manually or electrically operated valves, and single or double-acting plow cylinders.
These systems can be installed in as little as 2 to 3 hours. Plow Balance Systems save money!
